The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced a landmark partnership with Visa, appointing the digital payments giant as the Official Global Supporter for both the AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026 and the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027.

The agreement, announced on 15 January 2026, secures a category-defining partner for the Confederation’s flagship men’s competitions and positions Visa at the centre of Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning sports infrastructure. As the AFC U23 Asian Cup is currently underway in Riyadh and Jeddah (6–24 January 2026), serving as an important operational test for the senior tournament in 2027.

Beyond brand visibility, Visa will act as a key enabler of tournament-wide commerce, providing the secure and interoperable payment systems required to manage the influx of international fans across stadiums, hospitality zones, and fan parks.

Commenting on the partnership, AFC general secretary, Datuk Seri Windsor John, said: “Visa has been an exceptional partner of the AFC and Asian football.”

“We are delighted to strengthen our existing ties and work in close partnership with them to create more lasting memories for our passionate fans across the Continent and beyond,” Windsor John said.

The dual-tournament sponsorship reflects the recognisable rise of Saudi Arabia as a global sporting hub.

Visa’s senior vice president for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman, Ali Bailoun, emphasised the broader impact of the deal.

“As the game continues to thrive across Saudi Arabia, Visa is proud to support this growth by enabling secure commerce and world-class fan experiences through our trusted global network,” Bailon noted.

Strategic Commercial Implications

Visa’s rights package includes high-visibility assets and digital innovation designed to enhance the fan experience:

  • Matchday Moments: Exclusive access to official coin toss ceremonies and player escort programs for young supporters.

  • Digital Engagement: Sponsorship of “Top Goals of the Matchday” and fan voting mechanics to drive regional reach.

  • B2B Infrastructure: Tailored hospitality and access opportunities for Visa’s clients and partners within the Saudi market.

The partnership, organised by the Asia Football Group (AFG), ensures that the organisation’s flagship events are backed by world-class payment technology ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, which will feature 24 teams across eight stadiums in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar from 7 January to 5 February 2027.
