Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises Ltd (RACE) has unveiled a new organisational framework to foster growth domestically while advancing international outreach, including rumoured feature races at two additional Formula 1 Grand Prix.

In this revised structure, Shane Howard, currently the CEO of Supercars, will take on the newly established position of Director – Motorsport.

Commenting on his transition, Howard, said: “The demands of motorsport continue to grow, requiring an increasing level of focus and strategic direction to ensure the continued success of Supercars.”

“After more than three years as CEO, I believe now is the right time to transition into a role that allows me to concentrate on the sporting and technical side of the business, which has always been a great passion of mine,” he said.

This transition is part of a strategic plan to ensure continuity and leadership during this pivotal time, as RACE initiates a search for a successor to lead the business into its next phase.

Notably, he has been instrumental in introducing the groundbreaking Gen3 era, which is regarded as the sport’s most transformative period to date.

His initiatives not only included the development of new racing formats for 2025 and beyond but also involved extensive collaboration with stakeholders.

This includes partnering with the South Australian Government to rejuvenate the Adelaide 500, facilitating Toyota’s entry into the championship, and orchestrating Supercars’ re-entry into New Zealand.

Moreover, under his leadership, plans for a Perth street circuit have been advanced in cooperation with the West Australian Government, alongside various commercial strategies that are designed to bolster the sport’s future.

In his upcoming role as Director of Motorsport, Howard will concentrate on the strategic evolution of Supercars. His responsibilities will include engaging with key motorsport bodies and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), overseeing Toyota’s integration into the championship set for 2026, and supporting initiatives aimed at international growth.

Additionally, he will join RACE’s Board of Directors, where he will contribute strategic insights and expertise in motorsport.

This announcement follows the resignation of Supercars’ COO, Tim Watsford, who will take on the role of CEO with the St George Illawarra Dragons, effective June 2, 2025.

This change signals a period of transformation for Supercars, leaving the organisation with a lot to do as they hunt for a new CEO while preparing for potential Formula 1 races, which will put the brand on the international stage.
