Formula 1 has confirmed that Stefano Domenicali will continue as President and CEO until the end of 2029, following a five-year extension agreed with Liberty Media. Domenicali, who first assumed the leadership role in January 2021, has been pivotal in driving Formula 1’s unprecedented global commercial growth and fan engagement.

Under Domenicali’s tenure, Formula 1 has experienced significant commercial expansion, witnessing increased demand across sponsorship, media rights, and event hosting. This period has marked a substantial upswing in Formula 1’s global popularity, underpinned by strategic initiatives that have expanded fan bases in both traditional and emerging markets.

Derek Chang, President and CEO of Liberty Media, praised Domenicali’s impact: “We are thrilled to renew Stefano and look forward to his leadership alongside Formula 1’s talented management team for the years ahead. Stefano has accelerated Formula 1’s commercial growth and dramatically enhanced fan engagement. His energy, enthusiasm, and strategic acumen continue to deliver impressive results.”

Reflecting on his extension, Domenicali stated: “I am honoured to continue leading this incredible sport, which has been part of my life since childhood, and grateful to Liberty Media for their ongoing trust. Together with all stakeholders, our focus remains firmly on serving our fans, the heartbeat of Formula 1. Their passion fuels our dedication every day.”

Before joining Formula 1, Domenicali had an extensive career in automotive and motorsport management, including significant leadership roles at Ferrari, where he served as Team Principal from 2008 to 2014. He subsequently held senior positions at Audi AG and notably led Automobili Lamborghini to global market growth and commercial success from 2016 to 2020.

For the business of sport, Domenicali’s continued leadership signals Liberty Media’s commitment to maintaining stability and continuity during a period of sustained commercial momentum. His strategic approach, prioritizing innovation, fan engagement, and diverse global expansion, is expected to strengthen Formula 1’s commercial prospects further, presenting ongoing opportunities for sponsors, media partners, and host locations around the world.
