She Hoops has opened applications for Round 2 of its Leadership & Confidence Scholarship.
This programme, designed for young women aged 15 to 18, aims to cultivate leadership potential and provide diverse skill development beyond traditional playing roles within the Australian basketball community, the five-month scholarship will run from August to December.
The scholarship’s intent is to address the broader ecosystem of women’s basketball by developing future coaches, officials, and administrators, not solely elite players.
Participants will receive accreditations in coaching and officiating, equipping them with vocational skills that can lead to diverse career pathways within the sport.
This approach aligns with the growing demand for skilled personnel across all facets of sports organisations.
Key components of the programme include mentorship sessions with professional basketball players and a three-day camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra, offering exposure to high-performance environments and networking opportunities.
A notable inclusion is five sessions with EQ Minds, focusing on mindset, resilience, confidence, and leadership skills.
This emphasis on mental and leadership development reflects a holistic understanding of athlete and professional development, a growing trend in sports training.
To be eligible, applicants must have been born between 2007 and 2010 and demonstrate an interest in basketball beyond playing, such as involvement in coaching, officiating, or administrative duties.
This criterion specifically targets individuals keen on contributing to the sport’s infrastructure and growth.
The She Hoops Leadership & Confidence Scholarship represents a targeted investment in the human capital development of women’s basketball.
By providing formal accreditations, elite mentorship, and crucial life skills training, the programme aims to create capable and confident female leaders who can contribute across various roles, addressing potential skill gaps and enhancing gender equity within the sport’s professional landscape. Applications for Round 2 close on July 2, 2025.
