SG Esports and Summoners’ Society have signed a community partnership in an effort to strengthen ties between gamers and esports, due to SG Esports ownership of professional esports team, Gravitas.

Summoners’ Society, Australia’s largest and most active League of Legends community, will be featured on the Gravitas jerseys for Split 2 2019 and throughout 2020 and will have Gravitas players take part in fan events and tournaments run by Summoners’ Society.

SG Esports CEO, Sean Callanan, said this deal will help improve the future of esports in the Oceanic Pro League (OPL) and the Oceanic Challenger Series (OCS).

“I’m looking forward to helping Summoners’ Society grow and form stronger ties with the OPL and OCS scene,” Mr Callanan said.

“It’s important to help strengthen grassroots ranks if we want Oceanic to produce results on the international stage.

“Keshia and the Summoners’ Society team have done a terrific job engaging Australia’s most passionate League of Legends players I look forward to seeing those players in the OCS and OPL in the future,” he said.

Summoners’ Society spokesperson, Keshia Kimber, said this partnership is exciting for the Oceanic League of Legends competitions.

“We are very excited to be working with Sean, Brandon and the SG Esports team,” he said.

“We believe it is important to support the OPL, as it’s the community that keeps it thriving.

“SG Esports shares the same goals with us, in helping promote the grassroots and building a strong and passionate community.

“Sean has done an incredible job in growing his team, players and promoting a healthy, engaging environment for esports.

“We are thrilled to start this journey together,” Kimber said.

Gravitas GM, Brandon Defina, said this deal will help players replicate his journey into esports.

“My path to pro was almost identical to that of the Summoners’ Society tournaments,” Mr Defina said.

“I went from playing in community run tournaments to Riot run tournaments and eventually became a full-time professional.

“This partnership will help create a healthy environment where amateur players can hone their skills for professional play, while other players can just participate in a fun and friendly environment,” he said.

The community events that Summoners’ Society will run with Gravitas players will allow fans and the next generations of esports professionals the opportunity to take on current OPL and OCS players to elevate the chances for individuals to enter the professional gaming industry.
