Rugby League Commercial and IMG team up with Voono for Super League fantasy game

With the intention to elevate the digital presence of European rugby league and captivate a younger audience, Rugby League Commercial (RLC) and sports and entertainment giant IMG have unveiled an exclusive partnership with fantasy game developers Voono.

The collaboration aims to introduce a cutting-edge, free-to-play fantasy Super League game, set to launch early next month in anticipation of the 2024 competition’s kick-off on February 15. This game will encompass every club – 11 from England and one based in France – and player participating in the Super League.

Voono has already undergone a closed beta phase, engaging with rugby league fantasy enthusiasts to refine and enhance the gaming experience. Fans can now sign up for the game’s waiting list, featuring a unique card-collecting element alongside the fantasy gameplay.

“Two of the key priorities of our long-term strategic partnership with IMG are to transform rugby league’s digital presence and to increase our appeal to young fans,” said Rhodri Jones, managing director of Rugby League Commercial.

“We believe this exclusive partnership with Voono is a major step forward in both those areas. It’s a unique blend of fantasy gaming and sports card collecting, tailored specifically for the rugby league community.”

Daniel Chirwa, account director of digital at IMG, echoed the sentiment.

“Delighting our fans and delivering a better rugby league experience are two promises we set out to deliver through our digital transformation project,” Chirwa said.

“With gaming a focus pillar for digital innovation within the game, Voono’s product and forward-thinking team have matched our ambitions. They have proven to be an ideal strategic partner to enhance our gaming proposition across the sport.”

Voono, the visionary team behind this collaboration, has expressed its intention to continually enhance the gaming experience. Future features, such as substitutes and club-specific rewards, are in the pipeline, ensuring a dynamic and evolving gaming platform for rugby league fans.
