The 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season has marked a milestone in netball’s broadcasting history, achieving record-breaking viewership across Foxtel Group’s linear and streaming platforms, including Foxtel, Kayo Sports, Foxtel Now, and Foxtel Go. This marks the third consecutive year of rising audience numbers, highlighting the growing popularity and reach of the sport.

The success of Super Netball’s broadcast strategy is evident, with streaming audiences increasing steadily for three years. Notably, 63% of viewers now enjoy the matches via Kayo Sports, Foxtel Now, and Foxtel Go, leading to more than 210 million minutes streamed throughout the season and final series.

The 2024 Grand Final drew significant attention, where the Adelaide Thunderbirds clinched their second consecutive championship by defeating the Melbourne Vixens. This thrilling matchup alone accounted for nine million minutes streamed on Kayo Sports, Foxtel Go, and Foxtel Now.

Kayo Sports subscribers have benefited from Netball Australia’s innovative broadcast and streaming rights agreement with Foxtel Group, which allows free live access to two matches each round and every match of the Final Series through Kayo Freebies. This initiative has contributed to the continued growth of the audience, making the sport more accessible than ever.

Erin Ferreira, Executive Producer of Fox Netball, expressed her enthusiasm: “It’s fantastic to see that our supercharged content offering this Super Netball season resonated so well with audiences. It has been an exhilarating season, and we have enjoyed bringing all the action and analysis to netball fans across the country.”

The Opening Round achieved the highest viewership for an opening round ever, and the round 7 match between West Coast Fever and Melbourne Vixens, where the Vixens broke the Fever’s unbeaten record, emerged as the most-watched match of the season.

Erin added, “Just like our supercharged content offering, we supercharged the Kayo Sports experience this season with the introduction of 4K. We’re also thrilled that the Kayo Freebies audience continues to grow, giving more people easy access to the sport. Congratulations to the team and league on another brilliant season.”

Netball Australia CEO Stacey West highlighted the significance of these achievements: “This Suncorp Super Netball season has been the biggest yet, and we have seen significant growth in viewership across Foxtel and Kayo Sports.”

“Our partnership with the Foxtel Group showcases the inspiring stories of our world-class athletes playing in the world’s best netball league. This season’s record viewership is a testament to the strength of the competition and the incredible broadcast experience delivered to fans each week.”

This remarkable growth in broadcast viewership underscores the increasing popularity of netball and the power of broadcast sports to bring exciting athletic competitions to a wider audience. As the sport continues to evolve, its ability to captivate and engage viewers remains a major achievement in the landscape of sports entertainment.
