QRL Scores Fourth Major Partner In Three Months

QRL, the governing body for rugby league in Queensland, has scored its fourth commercial partnership in four months, signing P&O Cruises Australia as the Major Partner of its expanding Maroon Membership program for the next two years.

P&O Cruises will join an established QRL sponsorship roster, with the likes of BHP and Auswide Bank, to deliver unique and rewarding fan experiences for Queenslanders.

“We’re extremely excited about this opportunity to get on board with P&O for a number of reasons,” QRL Managing Director, Robert Moore, said today.

“Queenslanders love to travel and we’re the heartland of cruising in Australia, just like our state is rugby league heartland.

“It’s a fantastic synergy and we can now focus on working closely with P&O to deliver some amazing experiences to our members.”

Maroon Members can now look forward to some exciting developments to their membership, with the QRL and P&O pleased to confirm the following:

  • A Maroon Legends cruise sailing in October 2019 with Queensland Origin greats past and present, as well as exclusive functions, special events and experiences.
  • An exclusive 21 per cent discount* for Maroon Members who book on a P&O cruise departing in 2020, celebrating 21 State of Origin series wins for the team. Note, the offer is available on bookings made between March 8-15, 2019
  • Co-branded merchandise for 2020 Maroon Member packs
  • Origin matches streamed on all P&O cruise ships, meaning Maroon Members will never miss any of the live action while at sea

Former Brisbane Broncos and Queensland State of Origin star, Sam Thaiday, will come on board as an ambassador for the new partnership

“I’ve always been passionate about our fans and making sure they are included in everything we do; and thanks to the generosity of P&O, this is certainly one initiative that will ensure some amazing experiences for those who love the game,” Thaiday said.

“Queenslanders have some of the most passionate supporters in any sport, and it’s fabulous to see we’ve already got more than 11,000 Maroon Members who are actively behind the team in 2019.”

P&O Cruises have been sailing from Queensland for more than 85 years and year-round from Brisbane since 2010.

“With over 95 per cent brand awareness, P&O Cruises is a household name in the state, delivering amazing cruise holidays to more than one million Queenslanders over the past six years alone,” P&O Cruises Vice President Sales & Marketing, Ryan Taibel said.

“Queenslanders love cruising but their passion for the Maroons runs deep, with more than two-thirds of our guests on last year’s P&O State of Origin cruise originating from the Sunshine State.

“This year’s Maroons Legends cruise will bring together these two great pastimes for our guests.”
