QRL Launch Female Strategy To Boost Participation

Queensland Rugby League (QRL) has unveiled its new female strategy campaign as the game attempts to expand participation on and off the field.

QRL chief operating officer, Rohan Sawyer, said the Female Strategy 2020-2022 was a formative resource that highlighted “our vision for the future”.

“It was developed through extensive consultation with all parts of rugby league, as well as other sports and the business and government sectors,” Sawyer said.

“The purpose of the female strategy is to create equal opportunity for females across the game in Queensland.

“The strategy is aimed at not only growing participation from a playing perspective but across the whole game, with a specific focus on coaches, volunteers, administrators and match officials.

“Our aim is to achieve 15 per cent growth across these key participation areas by 2022.”

Six strategic pillars have been identified within the Female Strategy 2020-2022.

These are:

  • Education
  • Participation and pathways
  • Resources and sustainability
  • Brand
  • Partnerships
  • People

Sawyer said collaboration across all levels of rugby league was now the key to success.

“To ensure we deliver these outcomes, each of these strategies will need the combined efforts of participants from within community rugby league, as well as the ongoing commitment from the team here at the QRL,” Sawyer said.
