Prime Video has formalised its position as the exclusive home of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Australia, with all 55 matches set to stream live and on-demand from 7 February to 8 March 2026.
This move marks the centrepiece of a four-year partnership between Amazon and the International Cricket Council (ICC), which grants Prime Video exclusive Australian broadcast rights for all major ICC events through to the end of 2027.
The reason behind the deal reflects a shift in the Australian sports media landscape, moving global cricket events away from traditional broadcasters like Foxtel and the Nine Network.
Because the 2026 tournament is co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, Australia’s anti-siphoning laws, which typically mandate free-to-air coverage for home-soil World Cups, do not apply.
This allows Prime Video to offer the tournament as an exclusive “walled garden” benefit, driving Prime memberships at a $9.99/month price point while integrating high-performance features like 4K HDR streaming and “X-Ray” live statistics.
Commenting on the partnership, head of Prime Video Australia and New Zealand, Hushidar Kharas, said: “We are always looking for ways to deliver more value to our customers and live sports is consistently one of their top requests.”
“Every match of the T20 World Cup will be available to Prime members in Australia at no extra cost to their membership,” Kharas said.
Key Tournament Details & Australian Context
The 2026 edition features an expanded 20-team format, following a cycle of significant disruption and drama:
The Mitchell Marsh-led Australian squad enters the tournament seeking to reclaim the trophy, though preparation has been hampered by a recent injury to talisman Pat Cummins, who is now appearing in Prime Video’s ‘Go Full Cricket’ promotional campaign.
While JioHotstar (India) and Sky Sports (UK) remain dominant in their respective markets, Prime Video’s “exclusive” tag in Australia means no matches will appear on Kayo Sports or Channel 9.
The tournament build-up has been marked by Bangladesh’s withdrawal over security concerns (replaced by Scotland) and Pakistan’s boycott of their clash with India, raising the stakes for the remaining Group Stage fixtures.
2026 Broadcast Landscape in Australia
The organisation’s deal includes 448 live games, covering the Men’s and Women’s World Cups, Champions Trophy, and the World Test Championship Final.
