Parramatta Eels Break NRL Membership Record Despite COVID-19

Amid another season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, NRL’s Parramatta Eels have taken out a new all-time club membership record.

The club released a statement thanking the 32,376 members who joined the club in 2021.

The record-breaking result now makes Parramatta the leading club for membership across all 16 NRL teams.

Parramatta’s CEO, Jim Sarantinos said: “This is an incredible achievement for the club, particularly in another season affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

Like most sporting codes, for the majority of the NRL season, fans have been barred from attending live matches.

However, despite the challenges that COVID-19 has presented, fans have clearly not abandoned their teams.

Earlier this year, the AFL also reached record-breaking members, revealing a 1.1 million membership total across the league.

Ten of the 18 AFL clubs broke their own individual membership record.

“We want to thank all of our supporters for their unwavering commitment to the club,” Sarantinos added.

“We’re looking forward to our fans all across Australia being able to get back to the footy soon.”

Parramatta will be launching an all-new 2022 membership platform in the next two weeks.

With the remainder of the NRL competition being played in QLD, Parramatta fans can watch their team from home as they cement their position in the finals.
