After months of anticipation and negotiations, the latest proposal for the new US$2.1 billion stadium for the Tennessee Titans has been approved by Nashville mayor, John Cooper.
The development of the stadium will take into account feedback from the Nashville Metro Council and the local community, with a focus on improving infrastructure and public spaces.
The project will rely on revenue bonds, sales and hotel tax diversions, and state contributions, totalling $1.26 billion in public funds, which is the largest amount ever for an NFL stadium.
Nashville will begin collecting a 1% hotel tax once the proposal is approved.
The legislation is expected to be voted on by the end of April, with the stadium scheduled for completion by 2027.
It marks the end of a lengthy process that began in February 2022 when the Titans decided to construct a new stadium instead of upgrading their current home, Nissan Stadium, which would have cost at least US$600 million.
The new proposal will also create jobs and provide a boost to the local economy while also improving the fan experience for Titans games, with the new stadium set to become a centrepiece of Nashville’s sports and entertainment scene.
