ver 300 applicants from 45 different countries, applied to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) future leaders program aimed at supporting cricket’s emerging female talent.

The ICC 100% Cricket Future Leaders Programme has selected 40 women from 29 member countries, to take part in a mentorship program designed to address low numbers of women in leadership roles in global cricket.

According to the ICC, the philosophy of the program “is to be participant lead, with the ICC acting in support to match the mentees with suitable mentors and provide guidelines and evaluation frameworks for the participants, and opportunities to network and interact.”

Part of the ICC’s “long term commitment to accelerate the growth of women’s cricket and women in cricket”, the program lasts six months with applicants split into two batches, the first of which will begin this month with a workshop lead by former Australian Cricketer and former Women’s Cricket Australia CEO Belinda Clark.

Speaking on her involvement with the program, Clark said its pleasing to see quality leaders willing to help female begin their leadership journey.

“The breadth of this program is unique- not only covering areas of administration, coaching, officiating, governance, broadcast and digital but also matching people across borders to make it a truly global experience,” Clark said.

“I applaud the ICC for undertaking this program to facilitate greater diversity in all areas of the game,” she said.

ICC general manager, marketing and communications, Claire Furlong said there was an overwhelming response from all five ICC regions.

“The response from the global cricket community and all our member boards has been fantastic,” Furlong said.

“The first two batches reflect the diversity of our regions and their areas of focus, and all have received outstanding endorsements from their respective member boards.

“I’d like to thank all the applicants for their interest in the programme which demonstrates a clear appetite for greater support for our future female leaders as well as our mentors who have committed their time and support so readily,” she said.
