Ministry Of Sport Launch ‘Conversations’ Vodcast Series

Ministry of Sport has announced the launch of its free, ‘Conversations’, vodcast series, set to begin Friday at 3pm AEST, discussing the current state and future of sport with industry leaders.

Ministry of Sport founder, Ben Parsons, said he is excited to start the series and help influence the state of the sport industry.

“Grateful and appreciative, at a time of uncertain strategies in sports, we will talk through the sports codes future and gain access to experts off the field,” Parsons said.

“We have a great team, inspiring all sporting communities, and have come together with conversations on every level with this vodcast initiative,” he said.

The series is set to begin in episode one with special guest, director, office for women in sport and recreation for the Victorian government, Bridie O’Donnell.

O’Donnell is a former road cyclist, representing Australia at the 2008, 2009 and 2010 UCI Road World Championships, in addition to being a doctor, working as a clinical practitioner for 22 years.

In her discussion with Parsons in the first episode in the vodcast series, O’Donnell gave her tips and advice for Australia’s sporting organisations through and after COVID-19.

“Don’t wait for post COVID-19, these are three things you can do right now,” O’Donnell said.

“Think about the sponsors you currently engage with, whether you’re an AFL club or even an outer metro or regional sporting club, connect with them now, connect your members with them now, even if it’s the local pizza joint, connect with your community now because small businesses are doing it tough.

“Find ways your athletes and administrators can continue to do some of their business as usual, and whether or not that’s around social media and connecting with your community.

“Ask your athletes to stay engaged and run Q&A sessions live on Instagram or Facebook live sessions, think of ways that they can give back within their job description.

“Be innovative, look at what’s not been working in your business so far, what’s actually not terrible about having your sport cancelled right now, what could you overhaul in your committee, your governance, your policies that have not been working or give time to the things you’ve been putting aside because you never have the time,” she said.

The first episode of the ‘Conversations’ vodcast, hosted by Ben Parsons, with special guest Bridie O’Donnell can be viewed in full here.

Ministry of Sport is excited to continue bringing you this free online series with discussions to come next week with more key influencers in the sport industry.
