After delivering a successful journalism internship program to start 2021, Ministry of Sport has begun recruiting for the Q2 intake of the journalism intern team.
Targeting a recent journalism graduate, or an individual currently studying journalism, Ministry of Sport is hopeful the incoming intake can live up to the success and abilities of the outbound intake, which included Jordan Warren and Joshua Mayne.
Speaking about his experience throughout the 12-week program, Mayne said the practical experience helped him grow his journalism and communication skills.
“My time as a journalism intern at Ministry of Sport was very productive and valuable,” Mayne said.
“Being thrown in the deep end encouraged me to think on my feet and develop my own journalistic voice.
“The practical nature of the internship also meant I could develop my writing, interviewing, and editing skills.
“Overall I’d highly recommend the internship and encourage you to use it as an opportunity to develop a strong network in the sports media industry,” he said.
Adding on to Mayne’s comments, Warren said: “The Ministry of Sport internship program is a highly effective program for young journalists, such as myself, to fine-tune their writing skills whilst publishing articles frequently.”
“Ministry of Sport give you the freedom to source and pursue stories you are passionate about, with collaboration mimicking that of a physical newsroom experience.
“In my time in the internship program, I learned many important skills to improve my journalistic portfolio, including writing for deadline, how to better structure my interviews and writing topics for a niche audience.
“I would highly recommend this program to any aspiring student, or recently graduated, journalist to gain better insight and understanding into the field,” Warren said.
Speaking on the work of Mayne and Warren, and the value of the internship, Ministry of Sport editor, Joshua Hodson, said: “Working with Jordan and Josh throughout the start of 2021 has been a rewarding experience for the entire Ministry of Sport team.”
“Jordan and Josh have both made an amazing impact during their time with us, and they have both also shown incredible levels of improvement, not only in their journalistic writing skills, but also in their communication skills, professional skills, and industry connections.
“While we are obviously sad to see their time in the internship program come to an end, we know this will not be the last we see of them on Ministry of Sport and across the sport industry.
“We are very excited to begin the search for a new intern team and have high hopes the new team can live up to the high standards set before them,” he said.
