Matildas Smash Home Crowd Attendance Record

image

On a cold Monday night, a record-breaking 76,798 spectators filled Stadium Australia to watch the Matildas complete their Olympic preparations.

This attendance surpasses the figures seen during the 2023 Women’s World Cup, despite reduced ground capacities during that tournament.

The Matildas have emerged as one of Australia’s most beloved sporting teams following their impressive performance in last year’s Women’s World Cup. Hosting the tournament for the first time, Australia witnessed an unprecedented wave of support, with a Deakin University report estimating that 17 million people, or 64% of the population, watched the team’s semi-final match against England.

This success has significantly boosted the popularity of women’s football in Australia. Attendance has surged at both domestic and international matches, making tickets for Matildas’ games highly sought after. This trend highlights the growing interest and commercial potential of women’s sports in the country.
