Australia’s sports industry has announced two high-profile Chief Executive Officer (CEO) opportunities, each offering a unique chance to shape the future of Australian sport. Special Olympics Australia (SOA) and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) are both seeking dynamic leaders to oversee pivotal phases in their organisational growth.
The two upcoming CEO roles represent diverse, yet impactful opportunities, for experienced professionals to drive meaningful change. From fostering inclusivity and participation with Special Olympics Australia, to leading the nation’s Olympic ambitions with the Australian Olympic Committee, the successful candidates will play a key role in shaping the future of sport in Australia.
Special Olympics Australia is actively recruiting a CEO to execute its ambitious strategic plan.
The role will focus on expanding market penetration, increasing athlete participation, securing government funding, and driving organisational growth. The ideal candidate will bring broad business expertise, strong stakeholder management skills, and a proven ability to succeed in fundraising initiatives.
While experience within the sports sector, for-purpose organisations, or the intellectual disability community is advantageous, it is not essential. The role offers a competitive total remuneration package and can be based on the East Coast of Australia, with a preference for Sydney or Melbourne.
Applications, including a cover letter and CV, can be submitted to [email protected].
The Australian Olympic Committee is searching for a CEO to guide the organisation through a critical period as it prepares for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. This role represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to influence the Olympic Movement in Australia and beyond.
The CEO will be responsible for delivering the AOC’s mission of supporting athletes, promoting Olympism, and fostering a robust Olympic sports system. Key priorities include leading strategic initiatives, overseeing the preparation of Australian teams for major international events, and managing relationships with government bodies, sponsors, and international sports organisations.
Ideal candidates will have significant leadership experience, financial acumen, and a deep understanding of the global sports landscape. The role requires political agility and a capacity to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
Odgers Berndtson is managing the recruitment process for this position. Interested candidates can submit their applications, including a vision statement and CV, via the Odgers Berndtson website.
