After 11 years of leading the Brisbane Lions, outgoing chief executive officer Greg Swann, will transition to Melbourne next month to assume a new role as the AFL’s head of football performance.

A position integral to game analysis, match review, player movement, and the laws of the game.

Commenting on his new role, Swann, said: “When I started in July 2014, there were some challenging times, but the Lions are now a club fans want to support, and importantly, we’re a club players want to play for.”

“The base at Brighton Homes Arena is among the best in Australian sport, and we have certainty and clarity moving forward with the new Victoria Park stadium.

“This turnaround is thanks to a dedicated group of individuals committed to shaping the club,” he added.

He highlighted significant achievements during his time, including the Lions’ triumphs in the AFLW, claiming flags in 2021 and 2023, as well as aspirations for the 2024 AFL premiership.

According to Swann, the club now stands strong on both competitive and operational fronts, with upcoming financial stability, record membership levels, and a promising roster across both men’s and women’s teams.

Lions chairman, Andrew Wellington acknowledged Swann’s significant contributions, describing his leadership as essential to the club’s recent success.

Looking ahead, current chief operating officer Sam Graham will succeed Swann as CEO.
