Google Becomes First Official Supporter Of Tokyo 2020

Internet giant, Google, has become a third-tier official supporter of next years Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

Google Japan G.K. will serve as an official supporter of the event in the category of ‘Internet-based information and navigation services’.

The agreement marks the first Olympic and Paralympic sponsorship for Google, which opened its first international office in Tokyo back in 2001.

“We are delighted to welcome Google, a company which provides various services including internet search, online maps and language translation, as an official supporter,” Tokyo 2020 president, Yoshiro Mori, said in a statement.

“With their support, we expect the Tokyo 2020 Games, which will attract people from all over the world, to generate even more excitement.”

The addition of Google brings to 64 the total number of domestic partners for Tokyo 2020, whose organisers have already amassed a record US$3.1 billion in domestic sponsorship revenue.

The Games’ domestic marketing programme includes 15 top-tier gold partners, 32 second-tier official partners, and 17 third-tier official supporters, one of which has a deal that covers the Paralympics only.
