Five Of Australia’s Top CEO’s Set To Work With Emerging Talent, Including Sport Australia CEO Kate Palmer

Odgers Berndtson, a leading international executive search firm, has exclusively launched the CEOx1Day initiative in Australia, giving university students from Sydney and Melbourne the opportunity to shadow a top CEO for a day.

Five CEOs from across Australia’s public and private sectors will be the inaugural participants in CEOx1Day in Australia, including Sport Australia CEO, Kate Palmer.

The initiative, which has to date involved more than 1,000 participants world-wide, is an invaluable experience for both student and CEO; students come away with real insight into what it takes to successfully run large and complex organisations, and CEOs are directly engaging with a future generation of leaders and their perspectives.

With only one day left for students to register their interest, as applications close on July 17th, Kate Palmer says she wishes this opportunity was available when she attended university.

“The CEOx1Day Program is a great opportunity for today’s leaders to meet and learn from our future CEOs.”

“I’m incredibly lucky to work in a leadership role for Australian sport and I’m keen to share my learnings with like-minded individuals,” Palmer said, whose sports administration career spans more than 30 years.

“Sport Australia’s vision is to make Australia the world’s most active sporting nation.

“We’re committed to getting Australians moving more often because we know the great benefits of participating in sport and physical activity can bring.

“It’s a huge challenge but one I’m incredibly passionate about sharing with the next generation.”

The inaugural cohort of CEOs from a broad spectrum of sectors and industries within Australia include:

  • Kate Palmer, CEO of Sport Australia
  • Steve Weston, CEO of Volt Bank
  • Andrew Barkla, CEO of IDP Education
  • Elizabeth Koff, CEO of NSW Health
  • Tony Stuart, CEO UNICEF Australia

“As an organisation, we are committed to shaping and understanding what leadership means now and, in the future,” Managing Partner of Odgers Berndtson in Australia & New Zealand, Tim Sleep, said.

“While current CEOs understand the challenges of business today, the best way to future-proof an organisation is to consult those who will lead us into the future.

“Connecting bright and ambitious students with these seasoned leaders through the CEOx1Day program will provide challenges and immense insight to both.”

All penultimate and final year students enrolled in a Sydney or Melbourne University are eligible to apply for the CEOx1Day program.
