FBL Sport, an Adelaide-based basketball footwear and clothing brand, has partnered with basketball star Shyla Heal to launch Australia’s first-ever signature basketball shoe named after a female athlete. This historic release is part of the Shyla Heal Collection, a range designed to inspire the next generation of female basketballers with Heal’s powerful mantra: “You Can.”
Heal, daughter of former Australian Boomer and NBA player Shane Heal, turned down traditional endorsement deals from global brands to collaborate with FBL Sport, an emerging Australian company that shares her vision. The result is the Shyla Heal Signature Shoe, designed for peak performance and part of a broader Shyla Heal Collection that includes basketballs, caps, and socks. By choosing to collaborate with a brand that prioritises female athletes’ needs, Heal is sending a clear message: Australian women deserve gear that matches their talent and ambition.
“I remember vividly as I was growing up, every time I needed a new pair of basketball shoes, I was either trying to find a small pair of men’s shoes or had to buy netball shoes. Speaking with young families all around the country, this is still happening today. That’s just crazy to me when you see how many women and young girls are playing basketball,” said Heal.
Heal joins an exclusive group of global athletes with their own signature shoes, standing alongside icons such as Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart. Steve Rolton, founder of FBL Sport, emphasized the local significance of this collection, noting, “The growth in interest around women’s sport in Australia, highlighted most recently by the success of our female athletes in Paris including our amazing bronzed Australian Opals, shows that young Australian girls can look up to the best in the world, right in their own backyard.”
The Shyla Heal Collection, available for pre-order now and launching in select retailers from September 5, sets a new benchmark in Australian sportswear. This collaboration not only underscores the growing influence of women in sport but also showcases how local brands can lead the way in fostering this movement. By supporting female athletes and tailoring products to their specific needs, FBL Sport is making a significant contribution to the future of Australian sports.
