Fantasy Super Rugby Pacific 2026 Launches with Strategic Variable Pricing

Super Rugby Pacific has announced the launch of its official Fantasy platform for the 2026 season. The announcement, confirmed on 27 January 2026, follows a highly successful inaugural campaign that engaged over 70,000 fans globally and generated more than 4.5 million roster transfers.

The reason behind the shift to dynamic pricing is to deepen fan engagement by rewarding astute managers who can predict breakout performances. Unlike the fixed-cost model of 2025, player values will now fluctuate round-by-round based on on-field data. This change, supported by 83% of surveyed players, is designed to make team selection more challenging while maintaining the USD100 million (AUD141 million) salary cap.

Commenting on the announcement, Super Rugby Pacific CEO, Jack Mesley, said: “We saw incredible engagement in Fantasy in 2025… and the changes to the gameplay in 2026 are a signal of the competition’s intention to develop and grow the product every year.”

“We heard from fans that Fantasy drove them to watch more Super Rugby Pacific, both in person and on broadcast,” Mesley said.

Market Leaders and Strategic Pricing

Starting valuations for the 2026 season are highlighted by performance data from the previous year, placing high-usage playmakers at the top of the market.

Chiefs’ star Damian McKenzie opens as the league’s most expensive asset at $12.0 million, followed by Hurricanes centre Billy Proctor (USD11.1m) and Highlanders flyer Caleb Tangitau (USD11.0m).

Western Force’s Carlo Tizzano (USD9.8m) represents the top-valued forward, rewarding his high tackle-count metrics from the 2025 season.

While the budget remains static, the introduction of price rises and falls requires managers to treat their rosters as a financial portfolio, balancing immediate points against potential value growth.

Engagement and Growth Objectives

The competition formally kicks off on 13 February 2026, with the Highlanders hosting the Crusaders in the season opener.

The platform remains free-to-play globally, with the organisation once again offering a USD10,000 (AUD14,000) major prize for the overall winner.

Defending champion Callum Brown, who secured the 2025 title by just 14 points, has been integrated into the launch to provide “tips and tricks” for navigating the new pricing landscape.

Mesley noted that the platform is a key pillar in the league’s digital strategy to convert casual viewers into “always-on” fans.

The organisation expects to surpass 100,000 active users this season as it expands its reach into New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, and the Pacific Islands.
