Carlos Sainz has been formally appointed as a director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA), taking over from former Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel, who retired at the end of the 2022 season. This transition presents Sainz with the opportunity to bring his expertise to the esteemed organisation.

Sainz joins a distinguished leadership team at the GPDA, which includes fellow driver George Russell, chairman Alexander Wurz, and leader Anastasia Fowle. His appointment is perceived as a strategic advantage for the association as it tackles critical safety and broader issues impacting Formula 1.

On the GPDA’s Instagram account, Sainz commented on his appointment: “I am passionate about my sport and think we drivers have a responsibility to do all we can to work with the stakeholders to forward the sport in many aspects.

“So I’m very happy and proud to do my part by taking on the directors’ role in the GPDA.”

This sentiment exemplifies his commitment to fostering collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance the sport.

Wurz highlighted Sainz’s active role within the GPDA: “We are delighted to welcome Carlos as a GPDA director. He has been an active and engaged member of the GPDA for several years and we sincerely appreciate his commitment in stepping up to this vital role.”

Established in the 1960s and re-established in 1994, the GPDA primarily focuses on safety in motorsport while advocating for various issues that affect both drivers and teams.
