Overwatch League and Twitter form content partnership

American based Overwatch League has signed a multi-year deal with Twitter to publish game highlights and to live stream rounds on the social media platform.

The Overwatch League follows the model of traditional North American professional sports, using a set of permanent, city-based teams and regular season play, with each team franchise backed by an owner and tied to a major city.

Twitter will also broadcast Overwatch League season two on the social media site, with Twitter driving Overwatch League’s distribution of clips from every match of the Overwatch League regular season, playoffs, Grand Finals, and All-Star Weekend.

The collaboration will be in place in time for the Overwatch League All-Star Weekend, taking place on 25th and 26th August at the Blizzard Arena, Los Angeles.

Watchpoint, a new weekly preview show will be will be live streamed on the Overwatch League’s official account and will provide fans with statistics, predictions and analysis.

Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Activision Blizzard Esports Leagues, Daniel Cherry, said: “From the inception of the Overwatch League, the community on Twitter has always been one of our most passionate and engaged.

“That’s why we are particularly excited to announce this collaboration, beginning with the Overwatch League’s All Star-Weekend.”

Head of Gaming Partnerships at Twitter, Rishi Chadha, added: “Twitter is where Overwatch League conversations happen and we’re thrilled to bring more content to the platform for several years.

“Overwatch League is one of the most tweeted-about esports leagues on the platform, and this partnership will bolster that conversation.”
