Basketball Australia has confirmed the Boomers’ upcoming match against the University of Colorado will be broadcast live in Australia via ESPN and Kayo, marking the first time an Australian national team will face an NCAA Division I program in a commercial fixture.

Scheduled for tomorrow, 31 July on the Gold Coast, the match forms part of the Boomers’ preparation window ahead of the FIBA Asia Cup and will be broadcast internationally via FIBA’s Courtside 1891 platform, while ESPN+ will cover the match for US audiences.

Commenting on the broadcast, Head of Digital at Basketball Australia, Daniel Piekarski, highlights the match as a representation of both domestic engagement and an international exposure for opportunity, particularly with the growing relevance of NCAA talent pathways to the Australian basketball ecosystem.

“This match enables us to showcase the Boomers locally while increasing access to international fans through our partnerships with ESPN and FIBA,” Piekarski said.

On the competitive side, the fixture offers new Boomers coach Adam Caporn a rare chance to observe player combinations under match conditions in what is traditionally a compressed preparation calendar.

“FIBA preparation windows are extremely short, so we need to hit the ground running from day one,” Caporn noted.

Head Coach Tad Boyle described the Boomers as a benchmark opponent, citing the pride and pedigree of Australian basketball talent in global leagues.

The broadcast arrangement highlights Basketball Australia’s broader digital strategy to expand the visibility of national teams domestically and abroad. Additionally, the matchup provides the University of Colorado, a Big 12 Conference school, with a pre-season development opportunity.

The exposure also supports the NCAA’s growing interest in international fixtures as part of athlete development and brand building.
