EFL and Genius Sports Launch ‘Fantasy EFL’ Game

The English Football League (EFL), in collaboration with Genius Sports, has officially introduced ‘Fantasy EFL,’ a groundbreaking fantasy football game encompassing all 72 Member Clubs spread across the three Sky Bet EFL divisions. Unveiled for the first time during the 2023/24 Sky Bet EFL Play-Off Finals, Fantasy EFL is set to serve as a pioneering platform that unites fans of EFL Clubs, fantasy football enthusiasts, and the broader football community to participate and interact with nearly 2,000 EFL first-team players, over 1,600 Sky Bet EFL fixtures, and all 72 Clubs during the twists and turns of the season.

Accessible via web platforms and as a brand-new app designed for iOS and Android users, Fantasy EFL offers free gameplay, empowering participants to step into the shoes of managers every gameweek of the Sky Bet EFL season. With the unveiling of the 2024/25 EFL Fixtures, Fantasy EFL managers now have the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the game’s format and make their selections for Gameweek 1. Managers are tasked with picking seven players from the three Sky Bet EFL divisions each gameweek, allowing them to construct their dream squad without the constraints of a budget, as EFL players do not carry any monetary value. Teams can be crafted from various 7-a-side formations such as 1-2-2-2, 1-2-3-1, or 1-3-2-1. Gameweeks are scheduled from Thursdays to Wednesdays to accommodate double gameweeks and midweek Sky Bet EFL fixtures, ensuring managers can adopt an ‘always-on’ approach to their team selections. Managers must also nominate two EFL Clubs to earn extra points based on the outcomes of their fixtures for that gameweek.

Fantasy EFL permits participants to assemble a new squad every gameweek, with no limitations on player transfers. Managers can choose up to two players from each EFL Club out of the seven selected players per gameweek. Captains and vice-captains can be designated to earn double points, with a ‘Max Captain’ chip available twice per season for managers to double the points of their highest-scoring player. While there is no cap on player selections, managers can only pick the same EFL Club up to five times per season. Point accumulation aligns with traditional fantasy football scoring mechanics, akin to games like Fantasy Premier League. Managers will earn extra points for predicting the winning Clubs during the gameweek, with points awarded based on outcomes such as wins, draws, away wins, clean sheets, and the number of goals scored.

Managers can engage in private leagues with friends or partake in public leagues alongside other members of the Fantasy EFL community. Club Leagues cater to all 72 EFL Clubs, with automatic entry upon registration for participants. Exciting prizes including EFL Club Season tickets, Fantasy EFL merchandise, and rewards from EFL partners are up for grabs throughout the season, subject to Terms & Conditions. Monthly prizes await the top performers in the main public league, with seasonal victors of the 72 individual club leagues securing a 2025/26 Season Ticket to their nominated Club.

EFL Chief Executive, Trevor Birch, expressed enthusiasm about the launch of Fantasy EFL, underscoring its role in engaging supporters of all 72 EFL Clubs and the broader football audience. He emphasised the unique qualities of Fantasy EFL and its potential to expand interest in the Sky Bet EFL and its players beyond traditional match-goers and television viewers. Genius Sports Chief Partnerships Officer, Steven Burton, lauded the interactive and engaging nature of Fantasy EFL, reaffirming the company’s commitment to delivering an exciting gaming experience in collaboration with the EFL and its Member Clubs.
