The Global Institute of Sport (GIS) has announced the appointment of Charlie Methven to its Board of Directors, integrating a prominent and influential figure in global football leadership into its governance structure.
Methven joins the Global Sports Education Group (GSEG) Board during an important phase of expansion for GIS as it establishes its presence on a global scale, enhancing its standing as a premier destination for aspiring professionals in football and sports management.
Reflecting on his appointment, Methven expressed his admiration for GIS and its efforts to cultivate talent in the evolving sports landscape, saying that he is honoured to be asked to join its board.
He highlighted the increasing demand for well-qualified professionals in the industry and praised GIS’s approach to education, which combines academic rigour with practical experience.
President & CEO of GIS, Sharona Friedman, remarked on Methven’s addition to the board, indicating that his expertise at the confluence of sport, media, and leadership would propel the organisation forward.
“He’s not just a board member—he’s a force multiplier,” she noted, reflecting the synergy of their values and visions.
Having an extensive background in sports administration, Methven has held key executive roles at Sunderland AFC and Charlton Athletic FC, along with advisory positions with McLaren F1, the Jockey Club, and the Qatar government leading up to the 2022 World Cup.
Currently serving as Managing Director of Mount Pleasant FA, the foremost football club in the Caribbean, Methven’s vast experience encompasses sport, media, and performance strategy.
A graduate of Eton College and the University of Oxford, Methven pairs elite academic qualifications with substantial operational expertise.
