The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee has announced the formation of four inaugural advisory groups, bringing together some of Australia’s most respected athletes, business leaders, Indigenous representatives, and local government figures.
President Andrew Liveris AO confirmed the new groups will actively support the Brisbane 2032 Board in delivering the most inclusive and impactful Games in Australian history.
The groups, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Athletes and Sport, Commercial, and Host Mayors will meet regularly to provide strategic advice across culture, sport, business, and community engagement.
The announcement came during a two-day Board visit to Toowoomba, where members toured the showgrounds, met with local businesses and young athletes, and discussed how regional Queensland can share in the Games legacy.
“This is a generational opportunity to inspire young girls and boys to dream big,” said Federal Minister for Sport Anika Wells MP. “Working with experts in their fields will drive participation, inclusion and social cohesion through sport.”
Queensland Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander MP added that collaboration with athletes, business and community leaders would be key to “capturing Queensland’s sporting spirit and First Nations culture.”
Andrew Liveris AO, who will also chair the Commercial Advisory Group, said the founding members “bring an incredible depth of expertise and goodwill” to ensure Brisbane 2032 delivers lasting benefits for Queensland and beyond.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, chair of the Host Mayors Advisory Group, said councils across the state would play a critical role in making the Games experience seamless for residents and visitors alike.
Toowoomba Mayor Geoff McDonald showcased the region’s readiness to host equestrian events, noting the area’s strong sporting pedigree and agricultural connection: “When Brisbane 2032 comes, the world will quite literally taste Toowoomba.”
Meanwhile, Patrick Johnson OLY, chair of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group, emphasised that the Games would honour “lands, waters and rivers hosting the Games” and embed Traditional Owner voices across every stage of planning.
And Olympic icon Susie O’Neill AM OLY, chair of the Athletes and Sport Advisory Group, highlighted that the athletes’ voice will remain “at the heart of these Games.”
