An expanded partnership between the World Surf League (WSL) and Box to Box Films will see the production company behind the WSL series ‘Make Or Break’ have exclusive access to produce original unscripted and scripted projects from the five-decade archive of surfing.
The production company, which is also responsible for the Formula 1: Drive to Survive docuseries, has also confirmed it will produce a second season of the WSL series Make Or Break on Apple TV+, after the first season debuted on 29 April.
Discussing the expanded production partnership, WSL CEO, Erik Logan, said: “Box to Box Films is undoubtedly the hottest production company in sports and their ability to tell unique stories is unmatched.”
“This partnership is a full-league deal and gives the team there – headed up by Oscar-winning James-Gay Rees and Emmy winner Paul Martin – the unprecedented opportunity to mine the archives of the entire sport.
“This type of access gives them a real opportunity to delve deep into the league’s rich history and use their intimate storytelling approach to take viewers inside the world, lives, and legends of the best surfers on the planet,” Logan said.
Box to Box Films co-founder, Paul Martin, said the production company is excited to expand on their surfing coverage after beginning working with the WSL on the Make Or Break series last year.
“It’s been a phenomenal few years for the Box to Box Films team and we are thrilled at today’s announced partnership with the World Surf League,” Martin said.
“This agreement represents an exciting new phase in our relationship with WSL.
“At Box to Box, we are passionate about telling stories of the world’s best athletes and in the last year we became obsessed with the world of surfing and the depth and breadth of the WSL stories and history.
“We believe there are some epic stories both historical and current which we are excited to bring to the world,” he said.
