The Big 12 Conference has announced a new partnership with AthleteApps.com to provide every student-athlete across all 16 member institutions with their own mobile application for free.
This initiative is the first of its kind for a college conference, establishing the Big 12 as a leader in leveraging technology to empower its athletes under the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) regulatory changes.
Commenting on the partnership, Big 12 chief brand and business officer, Tyrel Kirkham, said: “This partnership with AthleteApps.com is a new resource for Big 12 student-athletes to enhance fan engagement, monetise their digital footprint and create future opportunities for brand growth.”
Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer and AthleteApps.com founder, Michael Redd, confirmed the market impact, noting the Big 12 has made a seismic move to equip and empower student-athletes and help them better monetise their full digital value.
By offering this technology to all student-athletes free of charge, the conference secures its honour as being at the forefront of the evolving commercial landscape in college athletics.
The apps will allow athletes to connect directly with their fan base by sending push notifications while maintaining full ownership of their data.
The move is consistent with the aggressive, innovative strategy implemented by Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark to elevate the conference’s brand and business.
