BDO Australia Joins Netball Queensland’s ‘Starting Seven’ Coalition

Netball Queensland (NQ) has announced a commercial partnership, welcoming leading global audit, tax, and advisory firm BDO Australia as the newest member of its Starting Seven coalition.

This investment strengthens a growing alliance of organisations committed to leveraging netball, the largest female participation sport in Australia, and to deliver wide-ranging social impact across Queensland, particularly in remote and regional areas.

Framing the partnership as essential for amplifying the sport’s social reach, Netball Queensland CEO, Kate Davies, said: “The Starting Seven has been created to partner with like-minded organisations, like BDO, so together we can amplify that impact where it’s needed most.”

“We are grateful to have BDO join us in this important work and thank them for investing in programs that make a real difference,” Davies said.

BDO joins founding member Ticketek in demonstrating this long-term commitment.

Confirming the strategic fit with the firm’s community values, BDO chief operating officer, Cara Wennerbom, added: “Joining the Starting Seven is about more than a corporate partnership.”

“Our contribution is about standing alongside Netball Queensland and supporting local players to make netball accessible for everyone, especially in remote and regional communities,” Wennerbom noted.

Launched in March 2025, the Starting Seven initiative provides a platform for values-aligned corporate partners to invest directly into NQ’s community and social program.

BDO’s contribution will be strategically directed towards key initiatives that increase accessibility and inclusion.

In addition, this includes expanding the Diamond Spirit Engage program, which provides culturally safe netball delivery, equipment, and leadership upskilling in remote Indigenous communities.

The investment is also set to boost regional talent development through a dedicated Regional and Remote Coaching and Development Program and a series of open invitation Regional Talent Combines, ensuring that athletes outside metropolitan areas have a clear pathway to elite levels.

Furthermore, the funds will establish a crucial statewide network of Wellbeing Officers across all 83 affiliated associations, focusing on player welfare and lifting community capability.
