All WNBL Matches Will Be Either Televised Or Live-Streamed Under New Broadcast Deal

For the third consecutive year, Fox Sports Australia will provide pay television coverage of Australia’s longest-running professional women’s sporting league, broadcasting one game each week, along with the addition of every game being streamed by the WNBL website.

The league’s new live streaming service will begin with a trial for the first two weeks but it is expected to include Sunday’s game between the Perth Lynx and Sydney Uni Flames at the Bendat Basketball Centre.

“It’s an exciting time for women in basketball and we expect the momentum to continue to push our league into the future,” Basketball Australia’s Head of Women in Basketball, Lauren Jackson, said.

“It’s fantastic that all of our games are going to be seen and accessible.

“We have an incredible season coming up and we expect our Aussies to be in fine form, as well as our import players who are coming off successful WNBA seasons.”

The lack of broadcast arrangements has been a major stumbling block for the league in recent years.

The WNBL returned to free to air television via SBS last season for the first time since the 2014/15 season, but the games were simulcast via Fox Sports due to an existing agreement with the pay television network.

While the NBL, NBA and WNBA will feature on both ESPN and SBS (including SBS On Demand) throughout the 2019/20 season, the WNBL will only be available via Fox Sports via pay television provider Foxtel and the WNBL website’s new live streaming service.

The opening game of the 2019/20 WNBL season is on Friday, 11 October between Adelaide and Sydney Uni, while the first Fox Sports broadcast game is on Sunday, 13 October from 3pm AEST in a game between the University of Canberra and Adelaide.
