The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) announces a new international collaboration, having signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nederland Olympisch Comite and Nederlandse Sport Federatie (NSF).
This partnership opens avenues for Australian athletes and teams to establish the Netherlands as a preferred training ground.
Commenting on the partnership, executive general manager of AIS Performance, Matti Clements, said: “This MoU represents a perfect alignment, as both the Netherlands and Australia consistently excel on the global sports stage.”
She expressed pride in Australia’s reputation as a sporting leader and enthusiasm about the possibilities this MoU with the Nederland Olympisch Comite and NSF brings.
“In the past decade, our athletes have greatly benefited from a home-away-from-home at the AIS European Training Centre in Italy.
“This agreement will enhance the support options available in Europe and offer invaluable professional development for our coaches and performance support teams.
“This international strategy is essential for maintaining Australia’s position as a leading sporting nation, as we recognize that we cannot achieve global excellence in isolation,” Clements noted.
This new partnership aligns with the Australian Government’s initiatives, particularly through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which unveiled Australia’s Sports Diplomacy Strategy 2032+ at the inaugural Annual Sports Diplomacy Roundtable in Canberra earlier this year.
Additionally, the AIS continues its relationship with France’s Institut National du Sport de L’Expertise et de la Performance (INSEP), with the MoU recently renewed ahead of the Paris 2024 Games.
Both INSEP and NSF are integral to the AIS European Sport Science and Sport Medicine Network, which delivers essential support to Australian athletes in Europe, especially during emergencies.
