he Adelaide 36ers have announced the appointment of Nic Barbato as the club’s new CEO.
Barbato most recently served as Perth Glory’s chief commercial officer, with over a decade worth of experience across Australian sport, including a stint with Sydney FC.
Adelaide 36ers chairman, Grant Kelley, said Barbato is the “ideal person for the club’s future direction”.
“After conducting a thorough national search, assisted by former Perth Wildcats’ managing director Nick Marvin, Nic was the standout candidate from an outstanding field,” Kelley said.
“He has a proven track record of delivering strong financial and commercial results in elite sport.
“The A-League mirrors the NBL in many ways, most especially its international orientation and growth trajectory among youth.
“We believe his skills are very adaptable to creating a market-leading basketball organisation here in Adelaide,” he said.
On his appointment, Barbato said he is proud to be the new CEO of the club.
“Adelaide 36ers has a rich history and great fans and members, it is an organisation with significant growth ahead of it and I am excited to help achieve that,” Barbato said.
“Adelaide 36ers is a family club led by dedicated and passionate owner Grant Kelley.
“With Grant’s vision for the organisation I am confident we are entering a new era of success for the Adelaide 36ers both on and off the court,” he said.
The club’s current interim CEO, Adam May, will become the club’s new chief operating officer, with Kelley saying: “We thank Adam for his stellar performance over the past three months as interim CEO, and are proud of his promotion to COO.”
“He and Nic will be a great leadership team,” he said.
