Humphrey Kayange has been appointed chair of the Coordination Commission for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar 2026
In his new role, Kayange will lead efforts to support the planning and execution of the first-ever Olympic event on African soil.
Commenting on his appointment, Kayange, said: “My vision is driven by empowering young athletes.”
“I’m honoured to serve the Olympic Movement and help provide a platform for young people to pursue excellence.”
“Dakar 2026 will unite young athletes from around the world, celebrating African innovation and the Olympic spirit,” Kayange said.
Since 2021, Kayange has been a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has served on the Athletes’ Commission.
Additionally, he holds significant roles within sports administration, including chair of the Kenyan National Olympic Committee (NOC) Athletes’ Commission and serves on the executive boards of the Kenya Academy of Sports, the Kenya Rugby Union, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The next Coordination Commission meeting is scheduled for 7-8 May in Dakar, Senegal.
