Netball South Australia Receive $6 Million Boost For Stadium Upgrade

etball South Australia (SA) CEO, Bronwyn Klei, has announced the stadium master plan can be “delivered in full” thanks to an additional $6 million in federal funding.

In addition to the $12 million Netball SA received from the state government last November, the money will be used to upgrade the home of Netball in South Australia in Mile End.

Klei said the funding will help provide a first-class netball facility for South Australia.

“We’re going to have a facility that’s not only better for spectators and better for players, but one that will generate benefits for netball across the entire state,” Klei said.

“Netball is the number one sport for women and girls, and I want to thank both the federal and state governments for showing netball in South Australia this very tangible support,” she said.

In a statement, senator for South Australia and minister for finance, Simon Birmingham said the funding for the stadium was committed by the Morrison Government in the recent federal budget.

“Over 100 jobs will be created during the redevelopment and is yet another example of the projects the Morrison and Marshall Governments are supporting to boost South Australia’s economic recovery,” Birmingham said.

“This funding will improve facilities and boost player participation for both community and professional netball at the Mile End stadium,” he said.

Plans for the upgrade look to enhance fan experience through increased capacity with elevated seating, modernising entry facilities, upgrades to the public address system, score boards and screens, and updating bar and eatery facilities.

Netball SA report the masterplan also includes a concept for a “strength and conditioning studio to optimise mental and physical health.”

Minster for recreation, sport and racing, Corey Wingar,d said the Marshall Government was proud to support the project.

“This investment in South Australia’s home of netball will not only benefit our elite athletes but also the thousands of young South Australians who play netball at a grassroots level,” Wingard said.

“The Marshall Government is proud to be investing record amounts in sporting infrastructure across the state, helping to position South Australia as a premier sporting destination both nationally and on the world stage,” he said.
