Superstars Continue To Dominate The E-Sports Sector

The Countdown Cup is well underway in the Overwatch League, meaning the 2021 OWL Playoffs are just around the corner. Once more, the OWL is rewarding players who tune in for the matches of the Countdown Cup in the form of a fan-voted Epic skin to commemorate the last tournament of the 2021 season before Playoffs.

“Skins” are becoming a big esports business where every sector unimaginable is dipping in for financial attention.

Rewind back to a private court hearing against Apple, Epic told the court that they sold 3.3 million NFL skins in two months, three years ago.

NFL skins sold at 1,500 V-bucks each, around $15 not including bundles, totaling around $50 million from a single set of skins.

With the vast profitability able to be made from these skins, it is no surprise that celebrity superstars are being introduced into the game.

Early in July this year, Fortnite launched NBA icon, LeBron James, into the game, arriving with two separate outfits, each equipped with his upcoming signature shoe, the Nike LeBron 19.

Now Fortnite continues to keep its fans happy, with the latest edition of Suicide Squad’s, Idris Elba-played character, Bloodsport, joining the list of celebrity skins available in the game today.

Furthermore, August will continue to be a big month for the game, where from the 6-8, fans can “take a musical journey” when Fortnite and Ariana Grande collide to deliver the Rift Tour.

Clearly, no sector is off-limits in the esports world, as more and more celebrity stars make the Crossover.
