The Western Australian Government has announced the start of site establishment works at the Burswood Peninsula, marking the first physical step toward the delivery of the $217.5 million Perth Park precinct.
The project will transform the area between Crown Perth and Optus Stadium into a world-class sporting and entertainment hub, headlined by a future Supercars street circuit slated for a 2028 debut.
Independent analysis by ACIL Allen confirms the precinct is expected to generate $61 million in annual economic activity.
For Supercars, the move represents a high-performance transition from the historic Wanneroo Raceway to a 3.4km FIA Grade 3 street circuit, providing a city-focussed “anchor” event similar to the Adelaide 500 or Melbourne’s Albert Park.
Commenting on the announcement, Sport and Recreation Minister, Rita Saffiot, said: “Our Government is all about delivery and Perth Park is going to be an incredible precinct for Western Australia.”
“It will be a hub for community, entertainment, culture, arts, and sport while also delivering major economic returns for our State,” Saffiot said.
Beyond its role as a motorsport venue, Perth Park is designed for 365-day community use and high-capacity entertainment.
Entertainment & Sport: The precinct will feature a permanent 12,000-seat outdoor amphitheatre, a multi-use building with function spaces, and indoor courts specifically designed for disability sport.
Active Transport: A dedicated multi-use track will cater to cycling, running, and para-sport year-round, converting into the Supercars track for one marquee week annually.
Environmental Legacy: A major landscaping plan—dubbed the “Urban Forest”—will see 150,000 new plants and the doubling of the existing tree canopy to enhance public amenity.
Parliamentary Secretary, Daniel Pastorelli, added: “Once completed, it will become something all Western Australians can be proud of—an iconic destination for locals, families, and tourists.”
The organisation’s transition to the new venue involves a multi-year construction schedule:
Immediate Works: Early site establishment includes fencing, site office setup, and vegetation clearing. Access will remain open temporarily for the AFL State of Origin clash on 14 February.
Wanneroo’s “Final Laps”: The Repco Supercars Championship will return to CARCO.com.au Raceway from 31 July to 2 August 2026 for the eighth round of the season, while the street circuit build continues.
The 2028 Target: While the parkland is forecast to open in 2027, the street race is targeted for the 2028 season opener.
