The Allan Labor Government is proud to support the vitality of local communities by unveiling a new suite of sports club grants, designed to foster engagement in the sports and activities that bring people together.

Today, Acting Minister for Community Sport, Gayle Tierney, visited Brunswick Stadium to announce the allocation of 827 grants for sports clubs throughout Victoria, with funding exceeding a remarkable $1 million from the Sporting Club Grants Program.

This initiative aims to alleviate financial pressures on clubs by providing essential support for equipment and uniforms, while also offering learning opportunities for volunteers and officials to enhance their skills and implement innovative programs that foster growth in local sports.

Commenting on the announced grants, Acting Minister for Community Sport, Gayle Tierney, said: “We’re getting behind local sports clubs – making sure they have the facilities and equipment they need to support their local communities.”

“These grants create real opportunities for the people at the heart of local sport – helping players grow, volunteers stay engaged, and coaches give their best both on and off the field,” Tierney said.

Among the standout projects is a grant of $4,000 awarded to the Brunswick Magic Basketball Association, which will launch a “Girls in Sport” program featuring free workshops with a WNBL1 player aimed at inspiring greater female participation in basketball.

Additionally, the newly formed Port Melbourne Chargers Women’s Football Club will benefit from a $1,700 grant that will support skill-enhancing courses, equipping coaches with new methods to foster the club’s development.

The program is also paving the way for Trafalgar Park Bowls Club to introduce pickleball to the community, backed by a $4,000 investment to roll out a 40-week program catering to participants of all ages and abilities.

Wangaratta Golf Club is set to receive $4,000 as well, which will facilitate a six-week initiative aimed at increasing women’s participation in the sport.

Moreover, the Victorian Budget 2025/26 underscores the government’s commitment to real cost-of-living support for families, including a $15 million investment to renew the beloved $200 Get Active Kids Vouchers for an additional two years—encouraging more children to engage in local sports and stay active.
