Port Adelaide Removes Warren Tredrea from Club Board Following Governance Review

Port Adelaide has confirmed the removal of club great and former captain, Warren Tredrea, from its board, following the conclusion of a governance review into comments made on his independently produced podcast.

The decision was announced on Friday, with the club stating the move was made in the best interests of its governance standards and member representation.

The review related to comments made by guest AJ Roberts during an episode of The Ballsy Show in May, which drew criticism from the Jewish Council of Australia for promoting what were described as antisemitic conspiracy theories.

In June, Port Adelaide launched a formal review into Tredrea’s role as a director and sought engagement with him regarding the matter’s resolution.

In a statement issued on Friday, Port Adelaide said Tredrea was asked multiple times to agree to a club statement that included an apology to the club and any supporters who took offence to the comments.

According to the club, Tredrea “refused on numerous occasions” to endorse the statement, prompting the board to move to remove him.

“After exhausting all reasonable avenues for resolution, the Board determined that Mr Tredrea’s continuation as a Director was not in the best interests of the Club.”

Tredrea, who played 255 games for Port Adelaide and captained the club to its maiden AFL premiership in 2004, acknowledged his removal in a personal statement and signalled he would comment further at a later date.

“I am concerned about the actions taken by a number of important people at our club which have led to my dismissal today.”

“For now, I’d just like to wish Josh, Lauren and the entire AFL, AFLW and SANFL playing group every success going forward,” he said.

Port Adelaide emphasised that the decision does not diminish Tredrea’s standing as one of the club’s most significant on-field contributors.

“His legacy as a player is secure and will forever be celebrated,” the club said.

The club will outline the process for members to elect a new director ahead of its next Annual General Meeting.
