Streaming platform, Optus Sport, has bolstered its football portfolio by securing the broadcasting rights to the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.

The deal will see Optus broadcast every match, live and in full, with the extension following a recording breaking broadcast of the tournament’s 2020 edition.

UEFA Euro 2020 was also the most watched sporting event in Australian history, with almost a million live viewers watching the final between England and Italy.

Commenting on the announcement, Optus vice president of TV, content, and product development, Clive Dickens, said: “We are extremely delighted to once again secure the rights to the Euros, as we know our customers absolutely loved Euro 2020 as proven by its record viewership and engagement.”

UEFA marketing director, Guy-Laurent Epstein, added: “We are thrilled that Optus Sport has acquired the next edition of the UEFA EURO 2024.”

“Optus Sport has a long history of innovation with UEFA football and we look forward to the extensive and excellent coverage on Optus Sport for Australian fans to follow every moment throughout the tournament across the country,” Epstein said.

The extension adds to a portfolio which includes, the Premier League until 2027/28, UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, UEFA national team football until 2026, which includes 1000 matches, the FA Women’s Super League, J.League, Copa America 2024 and selected UEFA women’s national team matches.

The announcement comes after former Dutch international, Clarence Seedorf, joined the UEFA Foundation for Children’s board.
