One New Zealand Warriors Establish Logan Academy

The One New Zealand Warriors have announced a partnership with the City of Logan, aimed at establishing an academy and community program in South East Queensland.

This collaboration represents a strategic move for the NRL club, extending its footprint into a key talent rich region while committing to broader community outcomes.

Logan City Mayor Jon Raven unveiled the initiative, detailing that the academy will feature an elite training and talent identification program for both boys and girls, alongside a community initiative designed to connect young people with sports and career opportunities beyond rugby league.

Underscoring Logan’s historical significance in rugby league, Mayor Raven, said: “Legends of the sport have emerged from Logan, and we are excited to welcome the Warriors to foster the next generation of NRL stars. With one of the largest populations of New Zealanders and Pacific Islanders outside Auckland, Logan is a vibrant rugby league nursery.”

Commenting on the strategic importance of this expansion, Warriors CEO Cameron George, mentioned: “This marks a significant milestone for our club—a brilliant opportunity to extend our reach into South East Queensland, a region teeming with rugby league talent.”

“Our elite academy for both boys and girls in Logan will offer a direct pathway to our NRL and NRLW teams. This initiative is a dual effort between Logan City and the One New Zealand Warriors, focusing on enhancing community outcomes through work programs while establishing a rugby league academy to support aspiring athletes,” George said.

The partnership is further supported by a collaboration with leading community developer Ausbuild, which will play a key role in offering work and community opportunities.

Ausbuild managing director, Matt Bell, added: “Sport provides a vital avenue for community connection and employment opportunities, including apprenticeships and jobs.”

“Our track record of partnering with clubs allows us to help build pathways for young people, and we’re thrilled to join forces with the Warriors and Logan City Council in this effort,” Bell said.

The Logan City Council will support the initiative by granting the Warriors access to facilities, including fields and office space, ensuring the program effectively collaborates with local rugby league clubs and nurtures local coaches and players.
