Leaders Unite to Honour Wallaroos and Strengthen Future of Women’s Rugby in NSW The NSW Parliamentary Friends of Rugby Union, in collaboration with NSW Rugby Union and Rugby Australia, hosted a Welcome Home Reception at NSW Parliament House to honour the Wallaroos following their inspiring Rugby World Cup campaign.
The special event celebrated the Wallaroos’ achievements on the international stage and their growing influence in shaping the future of women’s sport across Australia.
Attended by Members of Parliament, rugby executives, and community leaders, the breakfast highlighted the unity and pride driving Australian women’s rugby forward.
Commenting on the announcement, co-chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Rugby Union, Dr Marjorie O’Neill MP, served as MC, paying tribute to the Wallaroos’ impact both on and off the field.
“The Wallaroos continue to inspire not only on the field but across communities throughout Australia.”
“Their passion and success embody rugby’s values and pave the way for future generations,” Dr O’Neill said.
Rugby Australia’s general manager of Women’s Rugby, Jilly Collins, emphasised that the team’s World Cup performance was about more than results.
“The Wallaroos have inspired a new generation of girls to dream big,”
“As we look ahead to hosting the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2029, the future has never looked brighter for women’s rugby in Australia,” she said.
Wallaroos players Georgina Fredrichs and Desiree Miller joined a player panel moderated by Dr O’Neill, reflecting on the challenges and pride of representing Australia on the global stage.
NSW Rugby Union CEO, Peter Murphy, said the occasion highlighted NSW’s leadership in rugby’s development.
“Hosting two World Cups within four years gives us a powerful platform to strengthen pathways, elevate women’s rugby, and unite communities,” Murphy said.
The event concluded with a networking breakfast celebrating the Wallaroos’ success and NSW’s growing role in the next chapter of Australian rugby.
