The Collingwood Magpies have announced Nick Sims as a director of the club following their inaugural board of directors meeting, with the appointment prioritising the club’s effort to strengthen their financial position and government relations.
Sims’ appointment follows the announcement of new club president, Barry Carp, which has resulted in the re-evaluation of the board’s composition, including an increase of members from seven to eight.
Additionally, Sims’ appointment fills the hole left by Carp, who stepped away from his role as the chair of the finance and audit committee to become the club’s president.
Sims has extensive experience in the banking industry, where he currently serves as a global partner at Goldman Sachs, and is also the co-head of investment banking for Australia and New Zealand.
Sims has also worked in corporate finance at Ernst & Young, as well as bringing a decade of experience from UBS.
On Sims’ appointment, club president, Barry Carp, said: “Following our first Board meeting for 2025, we resolved to appoint Nick Sims as a Director, filling a casual vacancy on our Board. Nick brings a strong financial skillset and expertise and will play a key role in guiding our Club’s financial strategy and long-term sustainability.
“As we enter this new chapter, our purpose as a Board and Executive team is clear: to Connect, Win and Grow – on the field, in our community and in delivering for our passionate Members and supporters.”
With his financial experience, Sims will chair the Collingwood Future Fund Investment committee, while also influencing the club’s long-term financial strategy and sustainability.
Sims’ tenure will run until the club’s next general meeting, where he will be eligible for election for a full-term.
