etwork 10 has announced it will not televise Supercars past 2020, leaving the broadcast deal open to Seven, who is reportedly negotiating for more live rights than Ten currently has.

A Network 10 spokesperson confirmed the free-to-air broadcaster will not extend its contract past this year, citing financial losses as a result of COVID-19.

“Network 10 will not renew its contract with the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, which expires at the end of this year,” the Network 10 spokesperson said.

“Network 10 has enjoyed a great relationship with the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship over the past six years and it’s been a privilege to bring our audiences world-class racing.

“We look forward to finishing on a high with the 2020 Bathurst 1000 in October.

“We wish the drivers, crews and all those behind the scenes the very best for the 2021 season,” they said.

The expiring broadcast deal between Supercars, Foxtel, who is expected to sign a new pay-television deal to broadcast Supercars past 2020, and Network 10 is worth $241 million, beginning in late 2013.

The deals beyond 2020 will be for a “significantly less” annual fee than the current deal, according to Australian motorsport website Auto Action.
