The National Coaches Conference commenced at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra Centre of Excellence, marking its eighth edition and the highest attendance in the event’s history.

Commenting on the conference, general manager of the Centre of Excellence, Performance Pathway, Peter Lonergan, said: “This event keeps on growing, and we’re excited to have featured speakers that present a solid variation of coaches who specialise in the holistic development of young athletes.”

“A consistent theme will be exploring varying styles and ways coaches can connect with the individual and how investment in the person can translate to a supportive environment for the collective,” Lonergan said.

The coaching lineup included notable figures such as Alan Keane, head coach of the Great Britain Under 20 Men, James Janssen, associate head coach for the Women’s program at NCAA Davidson, Mel Downer, and Liam Flynn, head coach of the Washington Wizards G-League.

Additionally, the conference featured contributions from High Performance coach Macs Monk and coach development manager Jarrod Moore, who shared their insights from their roles with Basketball NSW. Presentations from the Centre of Excellence’s conditioning expert Bridie Duggan and professional wellbeing adviser Rhian Bird are also present in the conference.

The event showcased meaningful dialogue among coaches and provide valuable strategies for the holistic development of athletes, reinforcing the importance of tailored coaching approaches.
