The AFL has announced that global icon Kylie Minogue will headline the Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment at the 2026 Toyota AFL Grand Final.
This marks the first-ever Grand Final appearance for the Melbourne-born superstar, who will perform in front of a sell-out crowd of 100,000 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) this September.
With a career spanning decades, Minogue arrives at the “G” with a formidable commercial pedigree, including over 80 million records sold worldwide, five billion streams, and 18 ARIA Awards. Her selection follows years of negotiations between the league and her management.
Noting the significance of the Minogue’s appearance on the event, AFL CEO, Andrew Dillon, said: “Kylie has been on our wish list for a long time, and there is no better artist to headline the performance prior to our biggest game of the season.”
“You could already feel the excitement building during our recent content shoot at the MCG,” Dillon said.
The performance is a cornerstone of the AFL’s broader entertainment strategy, produced in collaboration with the Mushroom Group and long-term partner Telstra.
Mushroom Group CEO, Matt Gudinski, who is producing the show, stated that the timing was finally right to make this a reality.
“We’re working closely with Kylie’s team to create and produce what will be one of the most memorable Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment shows yet,” Gudinski said.
This marks the sixth year of Telstra hosting the pre-game slot. Telstra executive, Brent Smart, highlighted the brand’s commitment to delivering “unforgettable fan experiences” by bringing the “Queen of Pop” back to her hometown.
For Minogue, the performance is deeply personal. As a Melburnian, she stated that she was so excited to be coming home for the biggest day in the Aussie sporting calendar, she added that she’ll not only be performing, but she will also be one of 100,000 fans at the ‘G, watching the wonder that is footy.
The league is expected to leverage her massive social media presence and global fan base to drive record-breaking digital engagement and broadcast viewership for the 2026 season decider.
