The Goodes O’Loughlin Foundation (GO foundation) has released its 2026 Impact Report, marking 17 years of empowering First Nations youth through education.
The report launched a day the foundation recognises as one of reflection and resilience, celebrates the achievement of over 1,900 scholarships awarded since its inception in 2009.
Founded by Sydney Swans legends Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin, the organisation has transitioned into a robust, Indigenous-led entity that puts culture at the heart of educational success.
In 2026 alone, over 700 students will receive GO scholarships, providing vital financial and cultural support to young people across Sydney, Adelaide, and Canberra.
“If it is to be, it is up to me,” Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin noted, reflecting on the advice from their early coaches that continues to drive the foundation’s mission.
“We are proud to share stories of student dedication and achievement… this work is made possible through the generosity of supporters who have walked alongside our students every step of the way.”
The 2026 report outlines a year of significant strategic progress, with a particular focus on empowering young Indigenous women and strengthening tertiary pathways.
The foundation exceeded its goal for female representation, with 62% of scholarships awarded to young women and girls, recognising their pivotal role in community leadership.
New initiatives, including Year 5 and 6 Leadership Days and Sydney’s first Careers Experience Day, have deepened the “wrap-around” support model that defines the GO program.
While the national gap remains a challenge, GO Scholars continue to show high levels of engagement, with the foundation now supporting students from Year 1 through to PhD candidates.
Under the leadership of CEO Charlene Davison, a proud Biripi and Gadigal woman, the organisation has solidified its governance and long-term sustainability.
The 2026 report highlights that 94% of GO scholarships are now directed toward students in the public education system, where the majority of Indigenous students are enrolled.
The GO Foundation’s 2022-2026 Strategic Plan has successfully planted its footprint in three major Australian cities, and the board is now looking toward a new five-year roadmap to further scale its impact and alumni network heading into the next decade.
