After confirming the dates for AFL Gather Round 2025 yesterday, the South Australian Government has released the economic data highlighting the success of AFL Gather Round 2024.
The second AFL Gather Round, held from April 4 to 7, 2024, significantly boosted South Australia’s economy, contributing over $91 million and resulting in more than 190,000 visitor nights. This represents a 10% increase from the inaugural event in 2023, which generated $83.5 million and 151,487 visitor nights.
Attendance for the four-day event reached 265,011, with 45,847 visitors coming to South Australia, according to independent analysis by IER. Approximately 93% of these visitors stayed at least one night in the state, with interstate visitors averaging 4.5 nights.
The economic benefits extended beyond Adelaide, with 52,026 of the 191,669 visitor nights occurring outside the city. The event also supported 655 full-time equivalent jobs.
Looking ahead, the 2025 Gather Round is anticipated to expand further, with new features such as the inclusion of the Barossa Valley. This continued growth highlights the event’s importance in promoting tourism and economic activity across South Australia.
