Frizelle Family to Assume Full Ownership of Gold Coast Titans

The Gold Coast Titans have confirmed that the Frizelle family will assume full ownership of the club, bringing to a close a successful seven-year joint ownership with the Kelly family, which began in December 2017.

The partnership, held between Darryl and Joanne Kelly and Rebecca and Brett Frizelle, was established to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Titans for both the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales communities.

A Legacy of Stability and Community Impact

Reflecting on the transition and his lifelong involvement in the sport, Darryl Kelly said: “It has been a privilege to help keep an NRL team operating in this unique position across the New South Wales–Queensland border.”

He highlighted the pride shown by young players – male and female alike – who represent their families and communities on national platforms, and noted rugby league’s important role in addressing the challenges faced by today’s youth by offering pathways, support, and confidence both on and off the field.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in their lives and to help provide a genuine source of pride for our communities,” Kelly added.

As the Frizelle family assumes sole ownership, Rebecca Frizelle expressed gratitude for the longstanding partnership with the Kellys, calling them “the best partners anyone could ask for.”

“Our focus remains on bringing success to our region. While we haven’t yet achieved what we’d hoped on the field, we are committed to ensuring the Titans thrive in both the men’s and women’s competitions,” she said.

Titans Chairman Dennis Watt praised both families as exceptional custodians of sport across the Gold Coast and northern NSW. He acknowledged their work in building opportunities beyond the NRL team and emphasised their shared goal of leaving the sport better than they found it.

“The Kellys can walk away from club ownership knowing they’ve done exactly that—through selfless service to the game, the club, and the community,” Watt said.

Looking Ahead: Stronger Foundations for Future Growth

As a result of their combined efforts, the Titans are now in a stronger position to invest in high-performance programmes for both male and female athletes across rugby league and netball.

The Kelly family’s legacy includes establishing a robust commercial framework, which continues to underpin the club’s long-term aspirations. Financial stability has also been secured, bolstered by plans for the Titans High Performance Centre at Emerald Lakes, set to open in 2027.

This new facility will cater to both elite athletes and the wider community, reinforcing the ownership group’s continued commitment to the region.

Moving forward, Darryl Kelly will remain on the Titans board, while Brett Frizelle will serve as a director, ensuring continuity and stability as the club pursues success on and off the field.
